Death toll from major earthquakes in Turkey rises to over 40,000.
The death toll from the two major earthquakes that hit southeastern Türkiye on February 6 has risen to 40,642, according to the country's disaster agency.
At a press conference on Saturday, Yunus Sezer, head of the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), announced that search and rescue efforts would be largely completed by Sunday evening.
The emergency work was focused on southern Hatay province, which was the hardest hit in last week's quakes.
Sezer reported that nearly 13,000 personnel were
working in the area, and a total of 430,000 people were evacuated from the
earthquake area.
