Uganda's Royal Giant High School Triumphs in CECAFA African Schools Championship Qualifiers
Royal Giant High School of Uganda triumphed in the CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers for the CAF African Schools Championship after beating Geda Roble SS of Ethiopia in a penalty shootout.
The Mityana school won 4-2 on penalties with goalkeeper Patrick Katumba saving one of the kicks from Geda Roble SS, while Enock Bagenda, Thomas Ogema, Jovan Katuramu and Najib Nalingi all scored for Royal Giant.
The two teams had faced each other in the group stages, with Geda Roble SS coming out on top, but Royal Giant went on to beat Libya SS in the semifinals before claiming the title and a cash prize of $100,000.
In the girls' category, Uganda's Amus College won the bronze medal and a cash prize of $50,000 after beating Kiramuzi MS from Rwanda 1-0 in the third-place play-off.
