Rwanda experiences rare heat wave with record high temperatures in the capital.

A rare heatwave has swept across Rwanda over the past week, breaking records with a high of 33 degrees Celsius in the capital city of Kigali, according to the Rwanda Meteorology Agency.

The agency said that the high temperatures, which were experienced for four consecutive days from March 5 to 8, are partly due to climate change.

Such high temperatures are rare in the country and are usually expected in February. The last highest temperature recorded in Kigali was 32.5 degrees on Aug. 17, 2017.

The agency has assured that the heat wave is a short event, with rains expected from March 9, followed by cooler temperatures.

On March 2, the agency predicted torrential rains from March to May, and warned of potential disasters in different parts of Rwanda.
