Kenyan and Ugandan Ministers Visit Malaba Border, Commending Progress and Collaboration in Railway Projects

Hon. Musa Francis Ecweru, the Minister of State for Works, and Kipchumba Murkomen, the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Road & Transport in Kenya, embarked on a joint visit to the Malaba border to witness firsthand the advancements made in the area.

Accompanied by key officials such as Permanent/Principal Secretaries for works, roads, and transport from both countries, Managing Directors of Kenya Railway Corporation (KRC) and Uganda Railways Corporation (URC), customs officials, local community representatives, and border leaders, the ministers toured the park yards of Kenya and Uganda, along with the meter gauge railway station at Malaba.

During their visit, the ministers acknowledged and praised the collaborative efforts of URC and KRC in facilitating the smooth evacuation of cargo at the border. They expressed optimism that the extension of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) from Naivasha-Kisumu-Malaba and Malaba-Kampala will significantly improve operational efficiency and reduce cargo evacuation time at the Malaba border.

The visit signifies the ongoing commitment of both Kenya and Uganda to enhance transportation infrastructure and promote seamless cross-border trade in the region.
