The Diocese of Muhabura welcomed its third Bishop, the Rt Rev Godfrey Mbitse, in a splendid ceremony at St Andrew's Cathedral Seseme in Kisoro District.
The event
was graced by the Most Rev Dr Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, Archbishop of the
Church of Uganda, who presided over the occasion, and Maj (Rtd) Jessica Alupo,
the Vice President of the Republic of Uganda, who represented President Yoweri
Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa as the Chief Guest.
During his address, Archbishop Kaziimba emphasized the importance of unity for service and growth in the Diocese.
He urged Bishop Mbitse and the people of Muhabura to lead with humility and endurance as they handle the clergy and the people of God.
He also urged them to remain steadfast in God's word, to fellowship with
believers, and to be patient and bold as they preach and teach God's people.
President Museveni's representative, the Vice President, lauded the Church for being a dependable partner with the government in driving socio-economic transformation and development in the country.
The President thanked Church leaders for their efforts in promoting wealth creation and urged believers to participate in income-generating activities to sustain their households.
Bishop Mbitse pledged to collaborate with the government to improve the standards of Church of Uganda-founded schools, uplift health hygiene and sanitation, promote household income through commercial agriculture, intensive farming, and promote food storage and marketing.
He also pledged to focus on mission and evangelism,
children's ministry, and ministry to the youth, men, and boy child, as well as
complete the construction of the new Cathedral under construction.
Several
government officials attended the ceremony, including the Minister of Security,
the Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs, the Minister of State for
Trade, the Minister of State for Gender, and the Minister of State for Finance,
among other dignitaries. Bishop Dan Zoreka of the Diocese of Kinkiizi, who led
Bishop Mbitse's retreat and was the day's preacher, urged the people of
Muhabura to offer their Bishop support and avoid comparing him to his
predecessor.
