Parliament Questions Investment Agency Over Free Land Given to Investors.
KAMPALA — A parliamentary committee has asked officials from the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) to explain how they give out free land to investors. The Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE) made the demand during a meeting with UIA leaders. The agency's team was led by Director General Robert Mukiza. Lawmakers expressed concern after learning that some investors receive land for free to set up businesses, but later sell it for profit. The committee asked the agency to present a detailed report, clear financial accounting, and the criteria used to give out government land. The questions raised by the lawmakers follow concerns highlighted in a recent report by the Auditor General.
