KAMPALA — President Yoweri Museveni has praised the brave Ugandans who fought for the country's freedom, while urging citizens to focus on growing their household wealth. The President shared this message today, June 9, to mark Heroes Day. President Museveni explained that June 9 was chosen as Heroes Day to remember the hundreds of thousands of people who died during the liberation war, especially in the Luweero Triangle. He noted that after the war ended in 1986, the government collected skulls from 32 big graves to show the world the terrible things the people of Uganda went through. The President reminded citizens that before his government took over, Uganda was in a terrible state. The economy had completely crashed. The government had failed to protect its citizens. Police Arrest Key Suspect in Death of Rugby Star Sydney Gongodyo.

Police have arrested a key suspect who is believed to have played a major role in the killing of popular rugby player Sydney Gongodyo. This new arrest brings the total number of suspects in custody to nine. Sydney Gongodyo, a 27-year-old player for the Stanbic Black Pirates rugby club, died last Friday after being severely beaten by an angry crowd. The tragic incident happened around 2:00 PM in a suburb of Kampala. According to local reports, a thief stole a woman's handbag and escaped on a motorcycle. When the woman screamed for help, a crowd gathered. Family members say the crowd mistakenly blamed Gongodyo for the theft. Even though he pleaded that he was innocent, the group attacked and stabbed him. Police officers quickly arrived at the scene and took Gongodyo to Mulago Hospital, but he died from his injuries later that evening.
