NRM Makes Final Push for Votes in Kalangala Ahead of President’s Visit.

KALANGALA — Uganda’s ruling political party, the National Resistance Movement (NRM), is working hard to win the upcoming special election in Kalangala District.

A "by-election" is a special election held to fill a government seat that has become vacant before the regular voting time. This specific election is to choose the new District Woman Member of Parliament (MP).

On Thursday, the party's Deputy Secretary General, Rt Hon. Rose Namayanja Nsereko, arrived in the island district to lead the final campaign activities. Her arrival comes as the party prepares for a massive campaign rally on Monday, where President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to speak to voters.

Speaking to reporters, Namayanja said she is very confident that the NRM candidate, Idah Nabayiga, will win the election.

Namayanja explained that the party is in a good position because local leaders and members have been working together smoothly. She praised the local campaign teams for traveling across the islands to talk to voters and gather support over the last few weeks.

Final List of Presidential Candidates Announced.

KAMPALA, UGANDA - The Electoral Commission has completed the process of nominating presidential candidates for the upcoming 2026 general elections. The two-day event took place on September 23rd and 24th at the EC grounds in Lweza. A total of eight candidates were officially nominated to run for president. On the first day, three candidates were approved:  * President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of the NRM party.  * Kasibante Robert of the NPP party.  * Mabirizi Joseph of the CP party. Uganda's Army Chief Meets UN Peacekeeping Commander

The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of Uganda's army, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, met with the top military leader of the UN peacekeeping force in Congo (DRC) this Saturday. The UN leader was Lt Gen Ulisses De Mesquita Gomes, the Force Commander for MONUSCO. The meeting took place at the Special Forces Command (SFC) headquarters in Entebbe. The main topic was how to improve security cooperation in the eastern part of the DRC. Uganda's army (UPDF) is already working there to fight the ADF and other terrorist groups. This operation is called Operation Shujaa and is done with the Congolese army (FARDC). The MONUSCO Force Commander praised the UPDF for helping bring peace to the region, especially Eastern DRC. He said he wants closer cooperation and coordination, including sharing information (intelligence).
