Uganda Strengthens Industrial Power Infrastructure with New Transformers.

Uganda has taken a significant step forward in its industrialisation drive with the arrival of three high-capacity transformers for the Kabalega Substation at the Hoima Industrial Park. The Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) confirmed that each transformer has a capacity of 80MVA, making them critical assets for powering the country’s growing industrial base.

The Kabalega Substation is strategically located in the Albertine region, an area central to Uganda’s oil and gas development. Once installed, the new transformers will provide reliable electricity to support the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), petrochemical industries, and other large-scale industrial installations. This infrastructure is expected to serve as the backbone of Uganda’s energy supply for heavy industries, ensuring stable and sufficient power for national projects.

Officials say the transformers will not only improve power reliability but also expand Uganda’s capacity to meet future industrial demand. By strengthening the electricity grid in Hoima, the government aims to attract more investment, create jobs, and accelerate economic transformation. The move aligns with Uganda’s broader vision of achieving energy security and industrialisation as key pillars of national development.

The Albertine region has long been identified as a hub for oil, gas, and petrochemical industries. With the new transformers, UETCL is laying the groundwork for sustainable industrial growth in the area. Reliable electricity is seen as essential for unlocking the full potential of the region’s resources and supporting Uganda’s ambition to become a competitive industrial economy.

This milestone highlights Uganda’s commitment to building strong infrastructure that supports strategic investments, strengthens energy systems, and drives long-term economic transformation.
