KAMPALA, UGANDA - The Electoral Commission has completed the process of nominating presidential candidates for the upcoming 2026 general elections. The two-day event took place on September 23rd and 24th at the EC grounds in Lweza.
A total of eight candidates were officially nominated to run for president.
On the first day, three candidates were approved:
* President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of the NRM party.
* Kasibante Robert of the NPP party.
* Mabirizi Joseph of the CP party.
On the second day, five more candidates were nominated:
* Nandala Mafabi James Nathan of the FDC party.
* Mugisha Gregory Muntu Oyera of the ANT party.
* Kyagulanyi Robert Ssentamu of the NUP party.
* Munyagwa Mubarak Sserunga of the CMP party.
* Bulira Frank Kabinga of the RPP party.
All candidates met the legal requirements set out in the Presidential Elections Act. The nominations were overseen by Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon, who is the head of the Electoral Commission.
The official campaign period for the presidential candidates will begin on September 29th, after the Commission has finalized the campaign schedules with all the candidates.
