The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of Uganda's army, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, met with the top military leader of the UN peacekeeping force in Congo (DRC) this Saturday. The UN leader was Lt Gen Ulisses De Mesquita Gomes, the Force Commander for MONUSCO. The meeting took place at the Special Forces Command (SFC) headquarters in Entebbe. The main topic was how to improve security cooperation in the eastern part of the DRC. Uganda's army (UPDF) is already working there to fight the ADF and other terrorist groups. This operation is called Operation Shujaa and is done with the Congolese army (FARDC). The MONUSCO Force Commander praised the UPDF for helping bring peace to the region, especially Eastern DRC. He said he wants closer cooperation and coordination, including sharing information (intelligence). The Chief of the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, visited the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds today. General Kainerugaba was there to check on the final practice for the Independence Day parade. Soldiers from the UPDF, officers from the Police, and staff from the Uganda Prisons service were all practicing together for the joint parade. The parade is a major part of the upcoming celebrations for Uganda's 63rd Independence Day. The main event will take place soon at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.

  Entebbe, Uganda – The head of Uganda's Special Forces Command (SFC), Major General David Mugisha , has thanked President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for his leadership. Maj Gen Mugisha said that President Museveni's vision has turned the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) into a modern and skilled army. "I thank President Museveni, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the UPDF, for his good leadership. He has changed the army from a group fighting a guerrilla war into a modern and professional force in the region," said Maj Gen Mugisha.   A rebel assault on a secondary school in southwestern Uganda has resulted in over 40 casualties, the majority of whom are students, according to sources in the security sector.  The attack took place on Friday night at Lhubirira Secondary School in Mpondwe, located approximately 2 km from the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).  The suspected rebels from the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) set fire to a school dormitory and ransacked a food store. Tragically, at least 17 students were burned to death.  The militants also abducted six students, coercing them to carry stolen food. Uganda's military spokesperson, Felix Kulayigye, affirmed that every effort would be made to locate and rescue the abducted students.  Eight students, who sustained critical injuries, are currently receiving treatment at a hospital.   Yesterday afternoon, tragedy struck on the Mbale-Iganga highway in Namutumba district as a fatal accident claimed the life of a UPDF officer.  The Namutumba Police station received a report around 3:00 PM, stating that a motor vehicle, registration number UBN 376C - a TX Prado, had collided with another parked vehicle, registration number UAF 265F crane, at Mazuba Village.  The Prado was being driven by 51-year-old Warrant Officer 1 Mathias Ssefoloza, who lost control of the vehicle, leading to the collision.  The UPDF officer, Major Aceta Alex, who was a passenger in the Prado, died on the spot. The incident left two others injured, and they were rushed to Iganga Hospital for medical attention.  ASP Faridah Nampiima, the PRO Traffic and Road Safety, confirmed the accident and urged all road users to exercise caution to prevent such accidents from happening.
