Former Kenyan president to visit DRC amid worsening situation in the east.

The former president of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta, is set to embark on a 48-hour working visit to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) on Friday, according to a statement by the Congolese presidency.

Kenyatta, who is also the East African Community (EAC) facilitator for the peace process in the DRC, is visiting at a time when the situation in the eastern North Kivu province is deteriorating due to "serial deadly attacks" by the rebels of the March 23 Movement (M23).

He will hold talks with DRC President Felix Tshisekedi during his visit. The EAC initiated the Nairobi process in 2022, which focuses on implementing a program for ex-combatants, while authorizing the deployment of a regional force in the eastern DRC to flush out groups that refuse disarmament.
