Nakivubo stadium takes shape - Pictorial 📸
After almost a century since it was first built, Nakivubo
Stadium is finally undergoing a modern transformation. Situated on land donated
by the Kabaka of Buganda in 1926, the stadium is owned by the Government of
Uganda and operated by the Board of Trustees known as the "Registered
Trustees of Nakivubo War Memorial Stadium," appointed by the Minister of
Sports.
Starting in 2017, a major renovation project kicked off, spearheaded by a joint venture between the Ugandan government and Ham Enterprises.
The initiative aims to improve the stadium's grounds, increase seating capacity from 30,000 to 35,000, and construct retail shops within the facility's outer walls.
ROKO Construction, the project contractor, started work in June 2017 at
a cost of approximately $49 million, with renovations still ongoing.
As a result of the renovation works, SC Villa and Police SC had to relocate their games.
However, the end result promises to be a modern
facility that will elevate the experience of both athletes and fans.
