Luzira Prison Staff Undergo Training in Patriotism and Professionalism.

Luzira, Uganda – Prison officers from Luzira Women’s Prison and medical staff from Murchison Bay Prison Hospital and Luzira Prison Staff Hospital recently participated in a comprehensive training session at the Luzira Youth Centre. The training, led by Mr. Frank Baine, Senior Commissioner of Prisons (Deputy Director CCA/Service Spokesperson), focused on instilling patriotism, professionalism, empathy, discipline, and humility.

The program aimed at mindset change, improving customer care, enhancing public relations, and boosting financial literacy among the staff. Mr. Baine particularly stressed the importance of confidentiality for medical workers, emphasizing the ethical need to safeguard patient privacy while providing compassionate care. He also highlighted the significance of hospitality and quality service, urging staff to treat all individuals—inmates, colleagues, and local residents—with kindness and respect to build trust and strengthen community ties.

Mr. Baine also championed servant leadership, encouraging staff to prioritize the needs of others and serve with dedication. He discussed the balance between financial stability and delivering high-quality service, explaining that serving the community often requires putting collective well-being above personal gain.

The training further covered professional public relations, teaching staff how to manage sensitive information and interact with media. Mr. Baine outlined the ideal qualities of a prison officer or medical worker, including respect, skill, dependability, honesty, and integrity, while cautioning against negative behaviors that could harm the Uganda Prisons Service’s reputation.

Finally, the session addressed financial literacy, providing guidance on saving, earning, growing, and managing money wisely. The training reinforced the service's commitment to fostering a culture of responsibility, excellence, and respect, ensuring staff are equipped to uphold the Client Charter’s values in their service to the prison and surrounding communities.
