Vienna, Austria – On July 21, 2025, a top Ugandan official met with the head of the world's nuclear agency to discuss Uganda's plans for nuclear power.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (PS MoFA), Vincent Bagiire, met with Rafael Mariano Grossi, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency , at his office in Vienna.
The Ugandan team included Ambassador Stephen Mubiru, who represents Uganda in Germany and Austria, along with Ambassador Dora Kutesa, Mr. Anthony Agama, Ms. Anne Nabaasa, and Ms. Isabella Nakalema.
During the meeting, the PS MoFA told Director General Grossi that Uganda has opened a special office in Vienna. This new office will help Uganda work more easily and closely with the IAEA as Uganda develops its ability to create nuclear power. Uganda plans to generate electricity from uranium found within its own borders.
