KAMPALA – The Commercial Division of the High Court in Kampala has started a two-week program to help people solve their legal problems without a full trial. This program, called the Mediation Fortnight, launched today at the court's offices. More than 200 cases are set to be handled during this time.
HW Zulaika Nanteza, a court official, said the goal is to show people how well mediation works. "The more we do mediation, the more people will accept it," she said. She added that each time they do this, they learn new ways to make it better.
Another official, HW Jessica Chemeri, explained that the program will help clear the large number of cases waiting to be heard. She said 12 people will act as mediators, including judges and retired judges.
The court hopes this event will show that mediation is a good way to solve problems. It is seen as a faster, cheaper, and friendlier way to get justice, helping people settle their arguments without a big fight in court.
