Today, 110 new lawyers became advocates of the High Court of Uganda. The ceremony was held in Kampala at the Court of Appeal.
The event was led by Thadius Ayebare Tumwebaze, a top official from the Supreme Court. He welcomed the new advocates to their profession. He told them to be ethical and to keep learning. "The world has changed, and so has the legal sector," he said. He advised the new lawyers to use technology, be skilled, and act ethically.
A message from the Acting Chief Registrar was also shared. It described the legal job as both honorable and demanding. The message also expressed worry about some young lawyers not acting professionally. It asked the new advocates to always seek justice, not just represent clients.
The CEO of the Uganda Law Society, Christine Awori, spoke next. She told the new lawyers to be ethical and keep up with new technology. She also promised that the society would support them in their careers.
Peace Athocon from the Law Council called the enrollment a "once-in-a-lifetime moment." She told the advocates to always look professional and to never stop learning.
Among those who attended was the First Deputy Prime Minister, Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga. She was there to support her son, Edwin Kadaga Kivunike, who was one of the new advocates.
