Kampala, Uganda – Honorable Nyeko Derrick, the current Member of Parliament for Makindye East, has announced that he will not run for re-election in the upcoming polls.
In a statement, MP Nyeko expressed his thanks to all his supporters who have believed in him and trusted him with their votes over the years. He said he served with "honour, respect, and a deep commitment never to betray" their trust.
He acknowledged that the decision might be difficult for his team and supporters to hear, especially since they were confident of winning the Makindye East seat again. However, after careful thought, he made the "difficult decision" not to stand for election.
Nyeko said that his choice does not change the journey they have had or the wins they have achieved together. He hopes that the spirit of unity and service to the people will remain strong.
He ended his statement by saying, "I remain the man of no corruption, no problems," and signed off with "humility and gratitude."
