UCC Issues Strict Rules for Media Coverage During Elections.

KAMPALA – The Executive Director of the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) Nyombi Thembo has called for responsible journalism during the election period. Speaking with clarity, the Director warned that the media must never be used to promote political abuse, violence, or lawlessness.

To ensure national stability, the UCC has made it clear that certain actions will not be allowed. Media houses are strictly forbidden from providing live coverage of riots or violent incidents, as this can escalate tension. Additionally, the commission will not tolerate any form of incitement or hate speech, whether it is shared on traditional airwaves or via online platforms.

Furthermore, the UCC reminded all journalists and media owners that the official declaration of election results is the sole mandate of the Electoral Commission. Reporting unofficial results is illegal and dangerous. The Executive Director emphasized that these illegal acts put lives at risk and have the potential to destabilize the entire nation. He concluded by urging the media to prioritize the safety and peace of the country above all else.

UNEB Clarifies: No "Mock Exams," Just "Pre-Tests".

Kampala, Uganda – The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) wants to make something clear. They are not going to start setting "mock examinations" for schools, even though some news reports said they would. UNEB says that a recent news story incorrectly used the words "pre-tests" and "mock exams" as if they were the same thing. The truth is that UNEB is currently carrying out "pre-tests" in some selected schools. These pre-tests are part of UNEB's effort to make sure the questions and tasks used for the new Competency-Based Assessment are of good quality. So, while UNEB is indeed doing some testing in schools, it's for quality checks of their new assessment methods, not for setting practice "mock exams" that students would take.

Last Call: Today is Final Day for UNEB Exam Registration.

Kampala, Uganda – Heads of primary and secondary schools are reminded that today, July 31, 2025, is the final day to register students for this year's national exams. This is the last chance for schools to register candidates for the Primary Leaving Examination (PLE), Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE), and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE). After today, all school online systems for registration will be closed. The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) will not accept any more registration information for candidates taking exams this year.

Final List of Presidential Candidates Announced.

KAMPALA, UGANDA - The Electoral Commission has completed the process of nominating presidential candidates for the upcoming 2026 general elections. The two-day event took place on September 23rd and 24th at the EC grounds in Lweza. A total of eight candidates were officially nominated to run for president. On the first day, three candidates were approved:  * President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of the NRM party.  * Kasibante Robert of the NPP party.  * Mabirizi Joseph of the CP party. On the second day, five more candidates were nominated:  * Nandala Mafabi James Nathan of the FDC party.  * Mugisha Gregory Muntu Oyera of the ANT party.  * Kyagulanyi Robert Ssentamu of the NUP party.  * Munyagwa Mubarak Sserunga of the CMP party.  * Bulira Frank Kabinga of the RPP party.
