UMSC Releases 2025 Islamic Primary Exam Results.
KAMPALA, Uganda – The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) has officially released the results for the 2025 Islamic Primary Leaving Examinations (IPLE).
The results were announced on Monday, January 5, at the UMSC headquarters. A large crowd of school directors, teachers, and parents gathered to hear the performance of 7,759 candidates who sat for the exams in December.
The Chairperson of the IPLE Board, Sheikh Ali Lukyamuzi, reported that the exams were held successfully at 450 centers across 68 districts. Students were tested on four key subjects: Quran, Fiqh (Jurisprudence), Lugha (Arabic Language), and Tarbia (Islamic Ethics).
While most students completed their exams, the board noted that 19 pupils from Sumayya Junior School in Masaka did not sit for the papers. Additionally, results for four students have been withheld while officials investigate possible issues.
The board highlighted several successes, including an increase in the number of schools registering for the exams. However, Sheikh Lukyamuzi also pointed out some serious challenges. He noted that the board needs more financial support to supervise schools properly. He also mentioned concerns regarding exam malpractice, such as some teachers attempting to bribe officials and cases of impersonation. Furthermore, many schools submitted forms late or with missing information, which caused delays in printing ID cards and certificates.
The Second Deputy Mufti, Sheikh Muhammad Harunah Bukenya, represented the Mufti of Uganda at the event. He thanked parents and teachers for trusting the UMSC board. However, he raised a concern about the students' performance in the Quran. He urged teachers to put more effort into teaching the Holy Book, as it showed the weakest results compared to other subjects. He also called on all Ugandans to stay peaceful during the upcoming national elections.
Sheikh Juma Bakhit Cucu, the UMSC Education Secretary, spoke about the progress made since 2016. He explained that before a central board was created, many different groups ran their own exams, leading to confusion. He warned that only certificates issued by the UMSC IPLE Board are legally recognized. He also announced that the council is currently updating the curriculum to a competence-based system, which focuses more on practical skills and understanding.
