New Electric Bus Service Launches in Kira Municipality

Public transport in Kira Municipality just got easier and cleaner. The new EBUS XPRESS service has officially launched today at the Kira Playgrounds.

The launch event brought together key leaders from the area and government. Kira Municipality Mayor, His Worship Allan Bulamu Dantine, welcomed top officials including the Minister for Kampala, Minsa Kabanda, the Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation, Hon. Dr. Monica Musenero (represented alongside Hon. Jonard Asiimwe Akiiki), and Wakiso District leader Eng. Ian Kyeyune.

Mayor Bulamu lobbied for this initiative to help solve major transport problems in Kira, especially daily traffic jams and air pollution caused by older vehicles.

To celebrate the launch, Mayor Bulamu announced that all passengers will get free rides for the first week.

At the start, the buses will operate on three main routes:

  • Route 1: Kisaasi – Kyaliwajjala – Kungu

  • Route 2: Ntinda – Najjera – Kira – Nakweero

  • Route 3: Ntinda – Naalya – Namugongo – Seeta

After the one-week free trial, passengers will pay affordable fares starting as low as UGX 800.

The modern electric buses offer comfortable seating alongside extra features for passengers, including free Wi-Fi internet and phone charging ports on board.
