Gen. Moses Ali has officially started his new term as a Member of Parliament. On Wednesday, he took his oath of office during a ceremony at Parliament House in Kampala. The oath was led by the Clerk to Parliament, Hon. Adolf Mwesige. Gen. Moses Ali will represent the people of Adjumani West County once again. He is joining the 12th Parliament, which is the group of leaders who will make laws for Uganda over the next five years. This swearing-in process is a legal requirement for all elected members before they can begin their work and vote on important national issues. The event is part of a three-day schedule where hundreds of lawmakers are being sworn in. Many leaders and guests attended to watch the members promise to serve their country faithfully. Following this ceremony, the new Parliament will meet to choose its top leaders and start its daily business.

Phiona Nyamutoro, who is a State Minister for Energy and Mineral Development, is about to win a Parliament seat easily. The Electoral Commission (EC) will announce her as the new Woman Member of Parliament for Nebbi District on November 17, 2025. She will be the winner without any opponents (unopposed) in the 2026 elections. Nyamutoro is unopposed because the EC canceled the nomination of the other candidate. The cancelled candidate was Mercy Rebecca Abedican from the National Unity Platform (NUP) party. The EC made a ruling on November 13, 2025, saying Abedican's nomination was not correct under the law. The reason was that two people who were listed as signing her forms to support her (Godfrey Ongiera and Jimmy Bediic) said they never signed the papers. The EC Chairman, Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama, signed the official ruling.

MP Sseggona to Run as Independent in 2026 Medard Lubega Sseggona, the Member of Parliament for Busiro East, has decided to run in the next election as an independent candidate. This decision comes after he lost the chance to be the flag bearer for the National Unity Platform (NUP) party. The party chose Mathias Walukagga for the position instead. Mr. Sseggona announced his choice after a meeting with his supporters. The meeting was held at his home in Nakasozi, which is in Kyengera Town Council, Wakiso District. He will now compete in the 2026 General Election without a political party's symbol.

Senate President of Eswatini and National Assembly Speaker of Lesotho, Rt. Hon. Lindiwe Thulile Dlamini and Rt. Hon Tlohang Sekhamane, Touch Down for #CSPOC2024" In a significant development, the President of the Senate of Eswatini, Rt. Hon. Lindiwe Thulile Dlamini, and her counterpart from the National Assembly of Lesotho, Rt. Hon Tlohang Sekhamane, have officially arrived at Entebbe International Airport to participate in the upcoming #CSPOC2024. The distinguished delegates were warmly received by Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa.

Speaker Anita Among held discussions with the Speaker of the Parliament of Malaysia, Rt. Hon Johari Abdul. During the meeting, Speaker Among expressed Uganda's eagerness to enhance investment cooperation with Malaysia and strengthen the bilateral relations between the two parliamentary bodies. Speaker Johari emphasized the significance of East and Africa cooperation in fostering opportunities for the growing population and positioning the region for a prominent role in the 21st century. In a gesture of collaboration, Speaker Johari extended an offer to attract Malaysian investors to Uganda's agriculture sector. The meeting took place in anticipation of the 27th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers (CSPOC), scheduled to officially commence tomorrow.

The Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Hon. Mathias Mpuuga, has expressed concerns over the penalties imposed on poor waste management by the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA).  During a plenary session on Thursday, 09 March 2023, Mpuuga questioned the decision behind the fines ranging from Shs3 million to Shs100 million, targeting motorists and pedestrians caught disposing of waste poorly.  According to Mpuuga, the fines are unrealistic and inequitable, and the Ministry of Environment needs to explain how they were conjured up.  Mpuuga also demanded a solution to the ongoing industrial action by senior district health officers over delayed payments and raised the issue of arbitrary arrests of citizens by security operatives without natural justice.  The Government Chief Whip, Hon. Denis Hamison Obua, promised to seek responses from the concerned ministers.

  Lawmakers have voted in favor of a recommendation by the House's select committee, calling for the immediate resignation of Hon. Betty Amongi, Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development, for abuse of office. The select committee, led by Mbarara South Division Member of Parliament Hon. Mwine Mpaka, investigated the alleged mismanagement of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) and found irregularities in the minister's direction of Shs6 billion to her ministry. The report was presented during a plenary sitting on March 1st, 2023, and adopted on March 9th, 2023, during a plenary sitting chaired by Speaker Anita Among.   According to the report, the minister's actions violated the NSSF Act, and MPs raised concerns about her accountability for the misdirected funds.   According to Deputy Speaker, Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, the only way private universities can expand is through collaboration and resource sharing.  Speaking at the University of Saint Joseph's second graduation ceremony, Tayebwa urged the new university to mobilize like-minded institutions to establish platforms that enable access and sharing of information.  He also advised private universities to be organized to tap into government resources. Tayebwa further encouraged the graduates to promote good moral values in the job market and adopt a system that facilitates the use of external examiners to promote credibility.  The University's Chancellor, Archbishop of Mbarara His Grace, Lambert Bainomugisha, called on the management to focus on skilling learners to create jobs and appealed for increased government support.  The ceremony saw 184 learners awarded diplomas and conferred Bachelors' degrees in various disciplines.

The Right Honourable Anita Among, Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda, has taken on the role of leading a fundraising campaign aimed at supporting the education of girls and enhancing maternity services in the Bunya South constituency located in the Mayuge District.   At the invitation of the region's elected representative, Hajj Iddi Isabirye, the esteemed Speaker has pledged a total of 40 million shillings towards the initiative - 20 million from the Parliament of Uganda and a further 20 million from her own personal funds. The donations are set to make a significant impact in addressing the critical needs of the local community.
