Four Suspects in Custody Linked to Violent Murder Investigation.
A joint security task team, comprised of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI), and Crime Intelligence, is actively investigating the shooting death of Mukisa Ronnie, a 43-year-old clerk at IBC Advocates.
The team has made significant progress, with four suspects now in custody who are strongly connected to the murder. The individuals detained include Karedou Robert Irama, Nalwoga Brenda Cathy (his wife), Cpl Anyuse Max Geoffrey (a deserter from the UPDF), and SP Irama Vincent (a police officer attached to KMP North), who are being held at separate locations.
According to gathered evidence, the victim had a prior acquaintance with two of the suspects, Karedou Robert and Nalwoga Brenda, but a business conflict arose between them. They alleged that the victim had defrauded them of over USD 1 million.
The duo then sought the assistance of SP Irama Vincent, a police acquaintance, and together they hired Cpl Anyuse Max as a hitman. On the fatal day of May 30, 2023, Cpl Anyuse, armed with a firearm he had deserted with from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), followed the victim in a dark blue Subaru Legacy with registration number UBJ 006K to his residence in Kitoko-Birongo, Ndejje Division.
He fired four shots at the victim, killing him instantly as he approached the main gate. Cpl Anyuse made his escape on a waiting motorcycle and promptly contacted Nalwoga Brenda to inform her of their successful mission.
An investigative and intelligence task team collaborated diligently for 11 days to establish a chain of connections among the four suspects. The initial arrests were made at the home of Karedou, Nalwoga, and Cpl Anyuse in Kasana LC I, Kulambiro.
A subsequent search led to the recovery of two AK-47 magazines with 52 rounds of ammunition, military uniforms, and other related items. Although Cpl Anyuse initially confessed to shooting the victim with a firearm supplied by SP Irama, he has since recanted his statement. However, he guided the task team to the weapon used in the killing, which he had hidden behind the boys' quarters at the rented apartments in Kitiko-Birongo, wrapped in a polythene bag.
It should be noted that Cpl Anyuse confirmed SP Irama's involvement in orchestrating the murder plot. The task team proceeded to arrest SP Irama at Kawempe Police Station, and a search of his known premises led to the recovery of an official pistol and an AK-47 rifle with 30 bullets, two of which were newly replaced.
All the recovered firearms and bullets have been submitted to ballistic experts for further forensic examination. The recently discovered suspected murder weapon will also undergo examination by the ballistics expert.
The joint security agencies strongly condemn the actions of the two officers involved, as they violated their duty to protect the lives of Ugandans and instead chose to take another person's life for monetary gain. Such gross indiscipline, barbaric behavior, and aggression have no place within the forces. The actions of these individuals are regrettable and do not represent the disciplined forces of the Police and UPDF.
We want to assure the family of the deceased and the public
that our investigators are tirelessly working to apprehend the remaining
culprits while charging the four currently in custody with murder and related
conspiracies.
