Police Learn New Ways to Help Children

Kampala, Uganda – Senior police officer AIGP Bamunoba Ubaldo has started a special training program for police officers. This training, lasting five days, is happening at Unik Hotel in Kyaliwajala, Namugongo.

The program is about "Diversion." This means finding new ways to help children who break minor laws, instead of sending them straight to court. The Child and Family Protection Department organized this training.

The goal is to teach police officers how to work with young offenders in a way that helps them change and become good members of society again. This approach focuses on fixing the harm done and being kind to the children.

AIGP Bamunoba asked the officers to take the training seriously. He wants them to help change how police stations deal with cases involving young people. He also said that police should work closely with others in the justice system to protect children from harm, bad labels, and upsetting experiences that can come from going to court.
