KAMPALA – Traffic in Kampala is seeing some changes this week due to a major conference at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds. The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Delegates Conference, which runs from August 18th to August 28th, is bringing many people into the city, affecting how cars move around.
To handle the extra traffic and keep things safe, police have set up a special plan.
New Routes and Road Closures
- Main Way to the Conference: If you are a delegate going to the event, the main road is Ssezibwa Road to Golf Course Road/Fairway Road, leading to the grounds.
- Roads Still Open: Most of the regular traffic can still use roads like John Babiiha Road (Acacia Avenue) and Jinja Road with no problems.
- Roads Closed: Some roads near Kololo are closed to everyone except very important people (VVIPs). These include Lower Kololo Terrace and Upper Kololo Terrace. Drivers who usually use these roads should instead use Archer Road to get to Jinja Road. Wampewo Avenue is also closed at the traffic lights near Housing Finance Bank.
Where to Park
- VVIPs can drive through the Eastern Gate on Wampewo Avenue and park inside the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.
- Other delegates have special parking spots at City High School and Hotel Africana.
A Message to Everyone
Authorities are asking everyone, both drivers and delegates, to be patient and follow the rules. It is important to listen to the traffic officers on duty and to park only in the correct places. Planning your trip ahead of time will help you avoid delays and make sure the conference goes smoothly and peacefully.
