Kampala, Uganda – As Uganda looks towards the 2026 general elections, a significant step was taken today as representatives for H.E. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, collected presidential nomination forms from the Electoral Commission. This signals his official intent to contest the upcoming polls.
The move comes with a strong message from Bobi Wine's camp: "The Protest Vote Starts Now!" This slogan highlights their approach to the election, framing it as a continued stand against the current government and a call for change.
The collection of these forms is a key part of the election process, allowing presidential hopefuls to begin the formal steps required to be on the ballot. Candidates must meet certain criteria, including collecting signatures from registered voters across a significant number of districts.
Bobi Wine, a musician and opposition leader, has previously challenged President Yoweri Museveni in past elections. His supporters view the 2026 election as another chance to voice their desire for a new direction for Uganda. The Electoral Commission has outlined a clear timeline for the upcoming elections, with presidential nominations expected to take place in late September 2025.
