Presidential Ballots Arrive Ahead of 2026 Vote.

Image
Late yesterday evening, a very special delivery arrived that marks a major step toward the 2026 General Election. A heavy consignment of Presidential ballot papers was officially received by the Electoral Commission, signaling that the countdown to the polls is truly on. While "ballot papers" might just sound like stacks of printed sheets, for many, they represent the voice and the future of the nation. To ensure everyone feels confident in the process, the arrival wasn't a private affair. The Commission opened its doors to a diverse group of people to watch the boxes being unloaded and verified. Under the bright lights of the delivery site, several groups stood side-by-side to witness the event: Representatives of Candidates: Men and women sent by presidential hopefuls to keep a watchful eye on their interests. Political Parties: Officials from across the political spectrum ensuring the rules are followed. Observers: Independent groups whose only job is to make sure e...

NUP Candidate Mathias Walukagga Disqualified

Image
The Electoral Commission has announced a major change in the race for the Busiro East constituency. The Commission has disqualified Mr. Mathias Walukagga, who was the National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate. Mr. Walukagga was hoping to run for re-election, but he is now out of the race. Why Was He Disqualified? The Electoral Commission stated that Mr. Walukagga failed to meet the minimum formal qualifications required. This means he did not have the necessary basic documents or educational papers needed to run for office under the law. In short: The rules say candidates must have certain qualifications, and the Commission found that Mr. Walukagga did not meet those essential requirements. This decision means the NUP will have to quickly find a new candidate, or the election for the Busiro East seat will proceed without Mr. Walukagga on the ballot.

Election Body Speaks Out Against Violence

Image
The Electoral Commission (EC) has raised a serious concern about recent clashes involving some election candidates, their teams, and the police. Condemnation of Friday's Violence The EC specifically and strongly condemned the violent events that happened on Friday, November 28, 2025. These clashes tragically led to the death of one person and injuries to several others. The Commission stated that such violence is completely unhelpful to the country's democratic process. This violence is described as "unfortunate and regrettable" because, overall, the election campaign has been largely peaceful across the nation. Over 83,000 candidates are running for more than 45,000 positions, from local council members up to the President. Call for Investigation and Accountability The EC insists that these violent incidents must be investigated to find out what caused them. They demand that anyone responsible for the violence should be punished according to the law. The ...

Minister Phiona Nyamutoro to Win Nebbi Seat Without a Fight

Image
Phiona Nyamutoro, who is a State Minister for Energy and Mineral Development, is about to win a Parliament seat easily. The Electoral Commission (EC) will announce her as the new Woman Member of Parliament for Nebbi District on November 17, 2025. She will be the winner without any opponents (unopposed) in the 2026 elections. Nyamutoro is unopposed because the EC canceled the nomination of the other candidate. The cancelled candidate was Mercy Rebecca Abedican from the National Unity Platform (NUP) party. The EC made a ruling on November 13, 2025, saying Abedican's nomination was not correct under the law. The reason was that two people who were listed as signing her forms to support her (Godfrey Ongiera and Jimmy Bediic) said they never signed the papers. The EC Chairman, Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama, signed the official ruling.

They also checked that all campaign activities are sticking to the agreed-upon schedule and election rules. After the talks, all groups—the candidates, the police, and the EC—agreed on an important point: any concerns or disagreements during the campaign must be solved through talking and discussion, not fighting or confrontation. The Electoral Commission thanked everyone for working together, saying that their cooperation is helping to ensure the election process is smooth and believable.
