Election Body Speaks Out Against Violence

The Electoral Commission (EC) has raised a serious concern about recent clashes involving some election candidates, their teams, and the police.
Condemnation of Friday's Violence
The EC specifically and strongly condemned the violent events that happened on Friday, November 28, 2025. These clashes tragically led to the death of one person and injuries to several others.
The Commission stated that such violence is completely unhelpful to the country's democratic process.

This violence is described as "unfortunate and regrettable" because, overall, the election campaign has been largely peaceful across the nation. Over 83,000 candidates are running for more than 45,000 positions, from local council members up to the President.
Call for Investigation and Accountability
The EC insists that these violent incidents must be investigated to find out what caused them. They demand that anyone responsible for the violence should be punished according to the law.

The Commission reminded everyone involved—candidates, their agents, and supporters—to act peacefully and follow the law during the rest of the campaign and after.
Furthermore, the EC warned people to stop using language that promotes hatred, encourages violence, or causes arguments between different groups.

The Commission also called on law enforcement agencies (the police) to make sure election rules are followed. They urged the police to use methods that are suitable and fair for the situation in each area when ensuring compliance.
