President Museveni Opens NRM Conference, Outlines Key Goals.

KAMPALA – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni today opened the first meeting of the 4th National Conference of the National Resistance Movement (NRM). He congratulated all the new members who have been elected, saying it is good to see new leaders continuing the work of the elders.

The theme for this conference is: "Protecting the Gains as We Make a Qualitative Leap into High Middle-Income Status."

President Museveni explained that to reach this goal, the NRM must focus on seven main areas in the new term:

  1. Fighting Poverty: The party must work to help more Ugandans escape poverty.
  2. Stopping Corruption: The President said that corrupt people should not be allowed to ruin the NRM's progress.
  3. Better Police Work: He said the police must fight crime well and that citizens should report them if they do not.
  4. Maintaining Roads: The government will continue to put money into keeping roads in good condition, with 1.3 billion shillings given to each district every year for this purpose.
  5. Free Education: The government will continue to insist on free education in its schools.
  6. Better Healthcare: The NRM will work to improve how people can get medical help.
  7. Clean Water: The party will focus on making sure more people have access to clean water.

President Museveni said he is confident that if these issues are addressed, the country will successfully move into a higher middle-income status.
