Final List of Presidential Candidates Announced.

KAMPALA, UGANDA - The Electoral Commission has completed the process of nominating presidential candidates for the upcoming 2026 general elections. The two-day event took place on September 23rd and 24th at the EC grounds in Lweza. A total of eight candidates were officially nominated to run for president. On the first day, three candidates were approved:  * President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of the NRM party.  * Kasibante Robert of the NPP party.  * Mabirizi Joseph of the CP party. On the second day, five more candidates were nominated:  * Nandala Mafabi James Nathan of the FDC party.  * Mugisha Gregory Muntu Oyera of the ANT party.  * Kyagulanyi Robert Ssentamu of the NUP party.  * Munyagwa Mubarak Sserunga of the CMP party.  * Bulira Frank Kabinga of the RPP party. Nandala Mafabi Nominated for 2026 Presidential Race.

Kampala, Uganda – Nandala Mafabi James Nathan of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party has officially been nominated to run for president in the 2026 General Elections. He is the first person to be nominated on the second day of the nomination process. The Electoral Commission confirmed that he met all the legal requirements under the Presidential Elections Act, Cap 179.

Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Nominated for 2026 Presidential Race.

Kampala, Uganda – Kyagulanyi Robert Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, has officially been nominated to run for president in the 2026 General Elections. Kyagulanyi, who represents the National Unity Platform (NUP) party, is the third candidate to be nominated on the second day of the process and the sixth candidate overall. His nomination was confirmed after he met all the legal requirements set out in the Presidential Elections Act, Cap 179.

Mugisha Muntu Nominated for 2026 Presidential Race.

Kampala, Uganda – Mugisha Gregory Muntu Oyera has officially entered the presidential race for the 2026 General Elections. He was nominated today as the second candidate on the second day of nominations, and the fifth candidate overall. Muntu is running under the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) political party. His nomination was conducted under the rules of the Presidential Elections Act, Cap 179.

​ KAMPALA, UGANDA - President Yoweri Museveni has been officially nominated to run for president. The Independent Electoral Commission confirmed his nomination today. He will be the candidate for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party. ​After his nomination, President Museveni spoke to the public. He thanked the NRM members for choosing him. He promised to work hard for the party's goals. A key promise he made was to make Uganda a higher middle-income country. ​Later today, President Museveni will go to Kololo Independence Grounds. He is expected to speak to many of his supporters there. The theme of his campaign is "Protecting the Gains."

Lweza, Uganda – President Museveni has been officially nominated by the Electoral Commission to run in the upcoming 2026 elections. The nomination took place today at the Electoral Commission's offices in Lweza, Lubowa. This is a significant step as he seeks to extend his time in office. The nomination marks the formal beginning of his campaign for the next presidential term.

NUP Prepares for councillorship Elections

KAMPALA – The National Unity Platform held a press conference today to announce its official candidates for local government positions in the Kampala district. The event took place at the party’s headquarters in Makerere Kavule. The party's leader, Robert Kyagulanyi, sent off the candidates, who are running for positions like division mayors and local council leaders. He urged the public to vote for these candidates, who will be using the party's official "umbrella" symbol. Kyagulanyi stressed that the party will only support these official candidates and not those running as independents. He also thanked all candidates who lost in the party's selection process for accepting the results peacefully and supporting the winners. Museveni Opens Aga Khan New University and Hospital

President Museveni was happy to officially open the new Aga Khan University in Nakawa, a project that cost $23.8 million. He also started the construction of the Aga Khan Teaching Hospital. The President thanked His Highness the Aga Khan and the Aga Khan Development Agency for their important investments in Uganda. The government provided the land for the new university and hospital. President Museveni said the government will continue to make laws that protect investors and help businesses grow. He talked about a time in the past when the private sector was not well understood, and some properties were taken over. He said this was a mistake and that the government has now fixed its relationship with private businesses, including the Aga Khan. He also remembered the late Aga Khan IV, who was honored in 2017 for his great work in Uganda. The President also thanked His Highness Aga Khan V and Princess Zahra for their contributions to the country.

Museveni Presents New Firefighting Vehicle.

​President Museveni was happy to show a new firefighting vehicle called the Muliro Eater to ambassadors from the USA, Russia, the UK, and the European Union. A prototype of the vehicle was on display at the meeting. ​The President said he was inspired to create the vehicle after seeing on TV how fires have destroyed towns and regions in these countries. The Muliro Eater combines African firefighting tactics with military tank technology. ​President Museveni hopes the ambassadors will like the idea and decide to buy the vehicles. He said this project shows Uganda's dedication to helping others and promoting African inventions.  

Uganda Opens East Africa's First Advanced Traffic Center.

Kampala, Uganda – Uganda has officially opened a new, modern Traffic Control Center in Kampala. The opening was led by the Japanese Ambassador to Uganda, H.E. Takuya Sasayama. The new facility is valued at 47 billion Ugandan shillings (about $24 million USD). It is the first of its kind in East Africa. The center is expected to make a big difference in the city by: Easing traffic jams. Reducing air pollution. Helping Uganda’s public transport programs. The project highlights the strong partnership between Uganda and Japan in improving the country's infrastructure. Watch Video

Kampala Mayor Erias Lukwago Seeks Fourth Term.

Kampala, Uganda – Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has officially announced his plan to run for office again. He arrived at the offices of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) party to declare his bid for the 2026 Lord Mayoral race. Lukwago has been the Lord Mayor of Kampala since 2011. If he wins, this will be his fourth term in office. His announcement comes as the Electoral Commission (EC) begins the process of nominating candidates for different local government positions for the upcoming 2026 General Election.

MP Nyeko Derrick Announces He Will Not Seek Re-Election.

Kampala, Uganda – Honorable Nyeko Derrick, the current Member of Parliament for Makindye East, has announced that he will not run for re-election in the upcoming polls. In a statement, MP Nyeko expressed his thanks to all his supporters who have believed in him and trusted him with their votes over the years. He said he served with "honour, respect, and a deep commitment never to betray" their trust. He acknowledged that the decision might be difficult for his team and supporters to hear, especially since they were confident of winning the Makindye East seat again. However, after careful thought, he made the "difficult decision" not to stand for election. Nyeko said that his choice does not change the journey they have had or the wins they have achieved together. He hopes that the spirit of unity and service to the people will remain strong. Former MUBS Principal Prof. Balunywa Sent to Luzira Prison.

Kampala, Uganda – The former Principal of Makerere University Business School (MUBS), Professor Waswa Balunywa, has been sent to Luzira prison. This comes after he finally appeared in court to face charges of abuse of office. The prosecution claims that between February and April 2023, while he was still the head of MUBS, Prof. Balunywa used his position wrongly. He is accused of hiring three people as administrative assistants even though they did not have the necessary school qualifications for the jobs. The prosecution argues that this hiring created unnecessary costs for the government, which is the reason for the corruption case against him.

Democratic Front Welcomes Candidates Rejected by NRM and NUP.

Kampala, Uganda – The Democratic Front (DF) political party is inviting candidates who were not chosen by the NRM and NUP to join their party. Henry Lubowa, the chairperson of the DF Electoral Commission, said the party has extended the time for people to sign up for all elected positions. This extension is to give a chance to those candidates who were sidelined by other parties to continue their political journeys under the DF banner.
