Uganda has taken a significant step forward in its industrialisation drive with the arrival of three high-capacity transformers for the Kabalega Substation at the Hoima Industrial Park. The Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) confirmed that each transformer has a capacity of 80MVA, making them critical assets for powering the country’s growing industrial base. The Kabalega Substation is strategically located in the Albertine region, an area central to Uganda’s oil and gas development. Police have arrested a key suspect who is believed to have played a major role in the killing of popular rugby player Sydney Gongodyo. This new arrest brings the total number of suspects in custody to nine. Sydney Gongodyo, a 27-year-old player for the Stanbic Black Pirates rugby club, died last Friday after being severely beaten by an angry crowd. The tragic incident happened around 2:00 PM in a suburb of Kampala. According to local reports, a thief stole a woman's handbag and escaped on a motorcycle. When the woman screamed for help, a crowd gathered. Family members say the crowd mistakenly blamed Gongodyo for the theft. Even though he pleaded that he was innocent, the group attacked and stabbed him. Police officers quickly arrived at the scene and took Gongodyo to Mulago Hospital, but he died from his injuries later that evening.
