  UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed strong condemnation of the recent attack on a secondary school in western Uganda, believed to have been carried out by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) group. According to Ugandan authorities, the ADF rebels targeted Lhubirira secondary school in Mpondwe, near the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), resulting in the tragic death of at least 37 students. Several other students were critically injured, and six remain in the custody of the rebels. In a statement issued by his deputy spokesperson, Farhan Haq, Guterres called for the perpetrators of this heinous attack to be brought to justice swiftly. Rebel Attack on Ugandan Secondary School Leaves Dozens Dead.

  A rebel assault on a secondary school in southwestern Uganda has resulted in over 40 casualties, the majority of whom are students, according to sources in the security sector.  The attack took place on Friday night at Lhubirira Secondary School in Mpondwe, located approximately 2 km from the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).  The suspected rebels from the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) set fire to a school dormitory and ransacked a food store. Tragically, at least 17 students were burned to death.  The militants also abducted six students, coercing them to carry stolen food. Uganda's military spokesperson, Felix Kulayigye, affirmed that every effort would be made to locate and rescue the abducted students.  Eight students, who sustained critical injuries, are currently receiving treatment at a hospital. ADF terrorists attack secondary school.

Last night, the ADF rebels attacked Lhubirira secondary school, in Mpondwe, that is located about 2 kms, from the DRC border.  A dormitory was burnt and a food store looted. So far 25 bodies have been recovered from the school and transferred to Bwera Hospital.  Also recovered are 8 victims, who remain in critical condition at Bwera Hospital. A hot pursuit by the UPDF and the police is ongoing, towards Virunga national park.  According to the Police spokes person Fred Enanga, Police offer their deepest condolences to the families of those who have been killed, and offer prayers and thoughts to those who have been wounded.

Credit Officer at Post Bank Arraigned for Abuse of Office and Corruption Charges.

  In a collaborative effort with the Criminal Investigation Directorate, today The Anti Corruption Unit from State House Uganda brought Mr. Nahurira Danstan, a Credit Officer at Post Bank, before the prestigious Anti-Corruption Court in Kololo.  He stands accused of committing the offense of Abuse of Office. The court has decided to remand him in custody until the 23rd of June 2023. According to the allegations, the accused has purportedly engaged in the illicit practice of soliciting funds ranging from UGX1M-2M.  These illicit funds were allegedly obtained in exchange for issuing financial cards to individuals with existing loans, thus facilitating their eligibility to acquire further loans from both Post Bank and other financial institutions.

Four Suspects in Custody Linked to Violent Murder Investigation.

  A joint security task team, comprised of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI), and Crime Intelligence, is actively investigating the shooting death of Mukisa Ronnie, a 43-year-old clerk at IBC Advocates.  The team has made significant progress, with four suspects now in custody who are strongly connected to the murder. The individuals detained include Karedou Robert Irama, Nalwoga Brenda Cathy (his wife), Cpl Anyuse Max Geoffrey (a deserter from the UPDF), and SP Irama Vincent (a police officer attached to KMP North), who are being held at separate locations. According to gathered evidence, the victim had a prior acquaintance with two of the suspects, Karedou Robert and Nalwoga Brenda, but a business conflict arose between them.
